Continuing our Manufacturers series, Miles Electric Vehicles was founded in 2004 by entrepreneur/philanthropist Miles Rubin with a mission to rapidly develop advanced all electric vehicles to meet the needs of organizations and everyday drivers, while using no gas and producing zero tailpipe emissions.

While the current MILES line includes low speed all electric vehicles that produce zero tailpipe emissions and deliver strikingly low operating costs, making them a great fit for “greening” fleets nationwide, they have the MILES XS500 prototype sedan currently under development will top 80mph and travel over 120 miles on a single charge.

Miles Electric Vehicles is owned by Miles Automotive Group, Ltd, and headquartered at the historic Santa Monica Airport in Santa MonicaMiles Electric XS500 prototype electric sedan, CA. The company already has received more than 10,000 inquiries about buying the vehicle, expected to come with a price tag between $35,000 and $40,000. While the 2009 production won’t meet that demand, Jeff Boyd, Miles’ COO says that he wants to produce 30,000 to 50,000 vehicles in 2010.

Miles is an entrant in the Progressive Automotive X Prize competition and hopes its entry will be a contender for the $10,000,000 purse. From the looks of their site, the car looks very well finished. The XS500 is a typical mid-size sedan layout and moderately appointed interior. If it could come in at the lower end of the spectrum, I would buy this vehicle.
